I am researching my dad's military service in Korea because his records were
destroyed in the 1973 fire in St. Louis. I know that he received the Bronze Star,
Silver Star, and Purple Heart. I also know that he was wounded (gun shot) at least
once, possible twice, and that he was held by the Chinese as a POW for roughly 90
days. I found the orders for his Bronze Star and Silver Star on this website.
However, I cannot find the order for his Purple Heart on anything related to his
POW status. His name is William M Mobley, he went by Bill or Billy, and he was
from Georgia. He was 17 when he went to Korea and 18 when he returned. Any
information or a point in the right direction would be extremely appreciated.

Comments:

My father was in the 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean War and I am doing
some research for my family genealogy. He was there on 27 Jul 1953 when the
armistice was signed and was wounded in a grenade accident around 1 Aug 1953.
I believe he arrived sometime in the fall of 1952. He was eventually transferred
to a hospital in Hokkaido.

I remember him saying place names Papasan sector, Kumhwa, Punch Bowl, Boomerang
and talking about Chinese bugles and fighting on the front line. These map
locations are slightly east of center from the maps I have seen.

I would like to know if anyone could fill me in on his unit or anything else. I
would like to be able to do some research at the Army Heritage Center in
Carlisle as I live near there and they tell me the more information I can obtain
beforehand the easier my search will be. Currently information is scarce and in
fact I haven't been able to find anything about him online.

His name was Gordon Burgett and he was a private. Please feel free to email me
any information to burgettg@hotmail.com

Thank you

Looking for any information on my father Elmer G Alward, I have little knowledge
of his service. I only remember that he drove a personal carrier and hell on
wheels meant something to him. He was a corporal any further information would be
appreciated. Thanks from his son Randy Alward

Comments:

My dad Jim Moses was stationed at Thule from 10/29/54 to 8/3/56 when his National
Guard Unit was called into active duty. The National Archives cannot find his
records (likely due to a massive fire at their St. Louis storage facility in the
70s). The VA Hospital has his active duty dates I included above but not the DD214
to back it up. Online resources at the Pentagon suggest going to the base records
where he served. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I am desperate to get
him into a VA skilled nursing center.
