Hi David, My dad was in the 278th R.C.T. It left East Tenn. in Sept. 1950 and went to Camp Drum, NY (Pine Camp then). The name was changed while we were there. He was the 1st Bn. commander of Hq and Hq Co. He was Lt. Col. John Varnell. He died in 1990. He went to Korea with the 45th Division. He was the Troop Commander on the ship that left from San Francisco. On Sept 1st the city of Athens, Tn. is going to honor the men of Headquarters and Headquarters Co. and Company D.
