I served in the 5th RCT Dog Company June 1951 to Aug. 1952.
My unit was attached to the 7th Div. 24th Div. and I believe the
25th Div. when I rotated home.
I have tried to find any one who served with me but the only
one I made contact with was then Lt. Green from Texas I
believe.
Any one who served with me please respond.

Hi Glen,
I'm still kicking. Don't know for how long but whatever it
is I'll be satisfied. Was looking thru the Korean War
Project site when I saw your message. so of course I'm
curious as to what info you're looking for?
I attempted to acquire a better photo than the one I sent
you of the fellows in the jeep but the wife of Col. Boylan
completely ignored my request after telling me she would
get me a copy. The original of course belonged to Col.
Boylan but he sent all of his photos to me at one time for
help in identifying the fellows in them. I pretty much ID'd
everyone in them which amazed him to no end. At the time he
told me to keep them until I could get copies made but I
had no place that would guarantee safe keeping for them
while being copied so I sent them back telling him that I'd
get them at a later date. He died before that happened. I
was fortunate that a fellow at one of our reunions
delivered for a copier company and he had several copies
made with a copying machine. Otherwise I would have never
had the fairly poor copy I did have.
Col. Boylan did not like enlisted men and didn't mind
telling anyone within hearing range, so I didn't really
expect to receive anything from Mrs. Boylan because I
believe she felt the same way because of him.
Glen, I don't know of anyone else who was with the company
in Korea that uses the KWP site and would see your message.
There may be but I don't know of anyone. Col. Boylan told
us one time that his father who was also an Army officer
thought very little of enlisted personnel. He never said
what their problem was but he must have had a clue that he
wasn't the most popular officer around either. Our platoon
Sgt. gave the orders and Col. Boylan usually went along
with them, So a leader he wasn't although he thought he was.
Let me know what you're looking for. Maybe I can help.
David

Looking for information about my brother Harvey Surbeck .
101st Airborne and then the 5th RCT in 1950-?.
Have his DD214 and a picture taken in Korea near the 38th
parallel North of Seoul. Picture shows Robert Baver, Harvey
Surbeck, James McLinden, COL James Boylyn, and Robert
Denton(?). My brother was WIA (Leg) 15 Aug 1950. His records
were destroyed in the St. Louis Records Center fire in the
1970's(?). The one time he went to the St Louis Vet Hosp
they told him he was never in the Army. I checked for him in
the 1990's, with the same results, but oddly enough several
mounts after the inquiry he received all of his Korean War
decorations in the mail from DOD. Any information would be
appreciated.
