Dad was there, truck fell on him when jack broke and he grabbed it to save another man's life. I know he was not shot but he saved a man's life and not all war heroes were in combat. He lay on the ground under a truck for 3 weeks before they could get him to a hospital. When he came home, he could not stand the temps, mom had to keep the house cold, etc. He went to VA but they said it was nothing, they would not even fix his back, he had to have it done outside the VA, therapy and pills were all they would offer. In 1954, an outside doc had to remove all his toenail beds from the frostbite.

He died 4/20/09 of conjestive heart failure, peripheal vascular disease and about 30 more diseases to include diabetes. I am trying to get mom DIC but his death was not service connnected according to the VA. But it is, because I filed for a cold war injury prior to his death and on his deathbed, I had to have the World renown Heart doc perform the C & P because he could not be moved to the VA hosp. Cold injury does cause vascular disease along with many other things.

There are no records due to fire. But even in the records they pull, there are no records. The doctors in the VA do not write down everything the vet says in the C & P because I went to one...had to fite the doc to go in but by george I went in the C & P exam. They lied.

And some of you vets out there need to help us with the fact that everyone was issued a gun and told to shoot to kill because dad had one with no ammunition!!!!

Mom is the first widow to file as a substitute claimant for her dead husband. I am now with the BVA which July 14, they sent us a remand letter due to info not being gathered correctly by the RSO.

How can I get this approved....I need help. phone 501 697 5870

Thanks.

Becky,
My father was rated 100% for cold weather injury just 1 1/2 years ago. He passed away recently of heart failure and diabetes. The Vet Officer said to apply for DIC for my mother as diabetes and vascular/heart disease are residuals of cold weather injury. Do you have any documents that support this claim? I have submitted the claim, but am preparing to appeal as nothing is easy with the VA.

Thank you
Naomi Bowers

Hi to all!
For those of you who served in the Korean War, especially during the extreme cold. Please be checked for cold injury if you have the burning leg cramps at night and if your feet and legs are extremely sensitive to the cold temperatures. Feel free to contact me if you need any information. I will be happy to email you.
