We are looking for more information for my mother-in-law and the rest of our
family. My father-in-law served in Korea. Like others stated on this page,
he didn't talk much about his experiences there. Information is difficult to
come by due to many records being destroyed in a fire. We know that he was in
the 65th (Engineering), and he was wounded. Pictures show the men wearing the
Tropic Lightening patch. In one picture, he was standing next to a sign. The
lettering is barely legible, but appears to read, K&S Co 65th Eng. Any
information would be appreciated.

My dad was from Murphysboro, Illinois and was a sergeant in
the army and in the Tropic Lightning division in Korea. He
does have some black and white pictures while he was there,
but like others, didn't talk about it. He was on the front
line for 18 of the 21 months he was in the army. I would
love to know anything about his time in Korea and anyone who
knew him. My dad passed away in 1998 from a rare, incurable
cancer. My mom has his military things. He also had an Oak
leaf bar pin and was a sharp shooter. Is there anyone who
was there with him or knows anything about this time?

Believe this is the group my Dad was in during Korea. He
never talked about the war with me (either because I was
very young and/or he didn't want too). He passed when I was
only 15 so I never got the chance to find out more. His
name was Walter Mallard from Jackson Springs, NC (came out
of Fort Jackson in SC). The only contact we know of and
stay in touch with is one of his army buddies (Bill Coop out
of CA). If anyone has any info, please let me know. Thank you!

Tropic Thunder Caught my eye. My Grandpa was telling me he was in the 25th infentry, and he was showing me the Tropic Lighting book that kind of reminds me of a year book. It was pretty intresting. But I was wondering if any one possible knew Orvle Lee Goff? If you do please contact me. Thank you.

Hi!

Last week I picked up a book called, Tropic Lightning in Korea - its full of roster sheets and unit history. I bought it because my Dad was in the 65th Engineer Combat Battalion (Duane DK Morgan)in 1950 and 1951.

What is nice about it, is that it does list rosters for all units in the 25th Infantry, it looks like for 1953, so if you need your unit roster sheets, email me and I will be happy to scan the sheet and send you a copy (email or by mail), for those of you that were in 1950, 1951 and 1952, there is still some nice history about the units and I will do the same if you would like to have some information.

Also remember if you were exposed to the cold - and are having some problems, especially you guys from 1950 and 1951, contact me for some information regarding cold injury.

Take care and thank you for your service to our country!
