In September 1951, my father was a member of the Fort Carson element supporting
the filming of "The Korean Story" (released in 1952). Then a recent draftee, he
wrote home that he found it very tough working on the film every night until 700PM
and even on Saturday afternoons. Little did he know within four months, he would
be in Korea - an S4 supply sergeant in a mobilized engineer battalion of the
Alabama Army National Guard - close enough up front to see the flashes of
artillery "duels" at night. Life does have its surprises and turns.

Colonel Jeffrey H. Blackwood, U.S. Army (Ret)

my father Edward Berger worked on this film as a grip. I was sorting pix the
other day and found many shots my father took while on location.

Comments:

I was stationed at Camp Carson the latter part of 1952 and the 4th Field Artillary Pack battalion was also there. I was an MP and when on Gate Duty, the men would bring the mules out the gate to climb the mountain in front of the post. They were beautiful animals and the men who cared for them were so proud of their animals and I might add, looked pretty sharp in their campaign hats and riding britches.
