looking for anyone that served with my Dad Sgt. Dorsey 'Bo' Bohannon in Korea 50-51.
My Dad is desperately looking for a pfc last name of 'Yancy' thought to have come from Kentucky or Tennessee.
Sgt. Bohannon was platoon leader of a recon platoon, 70th tank Battalion, and later manned the two (2) BIG two-toed 90's (90mm cannons) brought over to penetrate mountian and hardened bunkers. These were the only such guns and the largest caliber guns in Korea at the time. Yancy was particularly gifted at sighting these 90's by eye on enemy targets, and was devestating as a quad 50(mounted on a half track) gunner for my dad, and always bugged Dad about using his field glasses. Yancy talked in a typical slow southern drawl. Yancy suffered greatly after a mortar round landed right next to their foxhole in extreme close proximity to the ammo dump for the 90's, yet failed to explode. Yancy caused my Dad the only injury he received (thank God) in Korea as a result of that incoming mortar round by jumping on top of my dad getting into a foxhole, breaking my dad's little finger...
My Dad has spent over 50 yrs desperately wondering what became of 'yancy' after he had to be sent to the rear...
If you recognize my dads name or the scenarios please feel free to email or call me at 618-203-3297.
Like all soldiers of that era my Dad is getting on in yrs, and I would love to solve this puzzle for him, before he passes from this world.
God Bless each and every service member that has ever or will ever serve this great nation!
