97TH MILITARY POLICE BATTALION - KOREAN WAR: Activated in Korea 28 October 1951 and inactivated in Korea 20 March 1953: The 97th Military Police Battalion was originally constituted on 08 June 1945 and activated on 13 June 1945 in Europe. It served briefly in Western Europe during the end of World War II before being deactivated on 12 November 1945 in France. The battalion was reactivated on 28 October 1951 to serve in the Korean Conflict where it operated the Prisoner of War Enclosure Number Nine in support of the United Nations led Prisoner of War internment operations. The facility secured 21,932 prisoners. The 97th MP Battalion continued to serve in the Korean Conflict until its deactivation on 20 March 1953 and was twice awarded the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation for their actions.
