Dear Fellows, while Im too young to been in the Korean War,
I followed your foot steps in the Cold War. Was station
there in summer'73 to summer'74 and again the entire year
of 1980. My MOS was a sub set of the Combat Engineer. i
was an Army Salvage Diver 00B30. After I retired from the
Army, I was invited to join the US Army Transportation
Museum at fort Eustis, VA. I research history of Army
divers and watercraft. I'm in search of history, stories
and photos of the 50th Engineer Port Construction Company.
I have stories and photos from several members (now all
deceased) from their time 1950-1954 with the unit in
Inchon. I want to share with others.

My Dad, Donald E. Kirkendall, was in A Co, 50th Port
Construction during the Korean War, from 1951 - 1953 (years
might be off alittle). He passed away in 2001. I've seen
a lot of his pictures and remember some of his stories but
I cannot find historical records of this unit. I, myself,
am a retired Army Engineer, and, while at Ft Leonard Wood,
had access to many books related to the War. I only found
one book that had short paragraph related to the 50th and
the evacuation from Inchon; nothing else. So I'm trying to
find any records or references from anyone who served with
this Company, or anyone who might have served with my Dad.
I met the 1SG of the HQ's Company in 2003 in Granite City,
Illinois (can't remember his name at this moment).

We have been going through some of my dads stuff and found
a picture of him with his truck. He was with the 50th
between 1952 and 1954 then he rotated back to the states
and was discharged we believe in Virginia. We also have a
picture which we believe was taken after or during boot
camp was there a reason he was in the 6th armored in boot
and ended up with the engineers in Korea? His name is
Andrew Malachinski he's no longer with us so getting some
answers would be fantastic.

Amy---Can you tell me what dates your father was in Korea with the 50th Engineers? I arrived at Pusan in late January of 1953 and was assigned to the 50th. Later on that year we moved to Inchon and our company area was right next to the tidal basin at Inchon harbor. I dont recall the name Mausolf but there are a lot of things I cant recall anymore. Please write. Thank You-------Lee Mecham

My grandfather, Darwin Mausolf, was a Motor Sgt. during the Korean War and worked on Inchon. Sorry I cannot be more specific. He has given me a list of most of the members of his group, but has found it difficult to contact any of his 'old buddies,' as he refers to them. I would really like to update him on some of his friends and even put them in contact with him if any are found! Please email me if you are out there! Thank you!!!
