During 1962-1964, I was under command of Earnest R. Shrader. I was stationed in Ft. Hood, with my then wife, Judy. Earnest had a wonderful wife, named Iva. Unfortunately, she was killed in her Volkswagen, when she rear ended another car & her V.W. burst into flames. My wife & I use to visit the Shraders, every chance that we had off duty, together. We got to know & trust each other. The Shraders, lived off post, as did my wife & I. After I was discharged from Ft. Hood, my wife & I were not getting along well, & she left me, with my 2 children, Mark & Kimberly, & moved in with Earnest. We lived in Riverdale Maryland, at the time, he lived in Nolanville, Texas. Sgt. Shrader (Earnest), called me after work one day, & told me I would NEVER see my children again. I divorced my wife, & she married Earnest Shrader, thinking that this would keep me from my 2 children, 3 & 5, at the time. That stirred up a hornets nest inside me. I got a good attorney, & was awarded back my children. Earnest & My X wife, busted up my family, causing much stress, not only for the children, but myself & my Family. Earnest bought himself, a lifetime of problems, for I found him, & got my children back, NEVER to return. PFC Clifford T. Vassallo

Our father passed away on August 14, 2003. He was an extremely talented storyteller, and his grandchildren listened in awe while he regaled any in ear-shot of stories about close friends, comrades, army antics and other soldiers who fought so dearly for what they believe in. I feel my father's memory was hideously abused in that his current wife did not commemorate his 30 years of military service. He served in Korea, Okinawa, and 4 tours in Vietnam. If you knew the wiry, curley-haired red-headed Shrader , the little man with the huge character, Sarge , Red or just Okie , it would be a vast comfort for us to know your short stories, tall tales or photos you would care to share. We are in the process of developing an on-line memorial and photo album. Please do not hesitate to email me if you feel you would like to share your story with us. http://hometown.aol.com/capronsj/myhomepage/index.html
