I was a member of C Co 32nd Regt. 7th Inf. Div. on
the Iron Triangle near Kumhwa, N. Korea from June
through Sept 1952.
I was a member of a night patrol during the monsoon
rains and our radio went out during the night while we
were in enemy territory.
The searchlights were called 'Artificial Moonlight' in
our area and our lights were not on most of the night,
so we were lost about all night until about 4:00 am
when they got them turned on. Sure was a relief.

My father Phillipe H. Vargas served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. He was with the 61st Engineer Searchlight Co. He is from Mitchell, Nebraska. He has lived in the state of WA for more than 50 years. I would like to know if anyone out there remeber's him. I plan on visiting with him this coming weekend, and let him know that I sent this e-mail. also if he has specific names of his buddies that served with him in Korea. Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Virginia

Yeah, I sure do remember the MOONBEAMS. I felt like every time I crossed the MLR on a patrol they would hit us just as we were slithering across. Mo matter how many times wwe gave date and time to MOONBEAM and told them to not turn on till we crossed the MLR they turned on. Once across it was nice to have them.

36th Engineer (C) Group HQ & HQ - Looking for anyone who served in Korea during the Korean the conflict affiliated with the HQ & HQ Company 36th Engineer Group - IX Corps Engineers. We were located during 1953 below the Iron Triangle between and below Chorwan and Kumhwa near a shelled out town named Tae-de-gul. Interested in the whereabouts and status of members who served in this outfit at that time and would like to get in touch with any veterans to exchange views and recollections. We were located alongside Route 22 east of MSR-3 near Tae-de-gul, which meant Little River Bridge. There was also a small stream nearby also not far from 44th MASH and a small water reservoir. Some of our working quarters were bunkers in a small hill. Affiliated Units – The 11th, 74th, 194th, 378th Engineer Battalions – 76th Dump Truck Company – 86th Engineer Searchlight Company – 323rd Engineer Company Light – 1437th Engineer Treadway Bridge Company.
