I am researching his military record and have boxes of photographs from his
service during the Korean War. He served in Okinawa, "Pacific Area," Japan,
Seoul, and Yokohama from Feb 52-March 54 - Duty includes confusing dates, and
references to FEAF.

Served in Korea from August 1968 to September 1969. I was in the Air Force and we
were based in Taegu at K-2.

I was a security policeman and when I rotated back I went to Bangor, Maine.

I landed in Korea on my 20th birthday. I am a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Was permanently stationed at Yakota Japan with the 347th TAC Wing, the 80th TAC
Fighter Squadron aka the Head Hunters. Due to the Pueblo Incident the 80th TAC
and its Sister Squadron (the 36h TAC) were assigned rotation TDYs. Each Squadron
took turns for typically 60 days each tour at the Osan AB. The first TDY for
the 80th was 06-Mar-68 which was manned with F105s. The next TDY was 14-Aug-68
and the F105s (Thunder Birds) was replaced with F4Cs (Phantoms). I again was
ordered TDY 15-Dec-68 and again 23-Apr-69. Working and sleeping on secured
Diamond that was patrolled by guards with K9s and housed a cement bunker that
stored bombs. There also were high-alert separate hangers that kept several F4C
nuclear-armed and ready for a fifteen minute take off. During one TDY there was
an accident where two F4Cs in on hanger were preparing to taxi. One F4C caught
fire then the second one ignited. Unfortunately three of our 80th ground crew
members were killed.

don't shoot you, they Chanute you"). Following Pueblo incident in January 1968,
sent TDY to Korea March-Sept. 1968: K-2, Taegu. Ran base dispensary for 6
months. Happily, no serious injuries or disease. Flight surgeons took care of
the F4C squadron (TDY from Vietnam)
Made friends with Korean physicians and dentist serving for ROKAF at K-2
(memorable. Treated to a ride in the back seat of a F4C (more memorable!).
Recruited to Canada for a university post; several years went by before locals
stopped asking me if I was a draft dodger!

where I can find a list of players, I would love it. My father would be 91 this

when they won the AF World Series, at least that's what he called it. I have the
silver cup and signed ball that the team signed for him and presented to him as

I arrived at K-6 and was assigned to 607th AC&W Squadron. in Jan. 1955. I
remember living in a tent for a short time and then to a quonset hut. I went
there by old world war 2 troop ship, Terrible storms almost the whole trip.
Seasick every one of the 15 days..Was glad to get on solid ground. We went by
Korean train to wherever we were going. The train broke down and we didn't have
any heat for hours. Got to K-6 finally. It was near Pyuontek. I was assigned to
motor vehicle unit and took care of scheduling all of the vehicles for
maintenance. We has jeeps, weapons carriers and world war II 2 1/2 ton trucks. I
remember the jeeps were not allowed to go off Base because the road were too
bad. I was with all of the guys that worked on the vehicles. Most of them were
great guys. That year was quite an experience for everyone. Went to Tokyo for
R&R after 6 months. I don't want to talk about that trip. Most of you know what
I mean. Got back home on Dec. 22, 1955 because the had a thing called "Operation
Santa Claus" Anyone within a month of going home got to leave early. Went to
Haneda AFB, Next stop Wake Island to Refuel. Next stop Hawaii. Then on to Calif.
Then New York. No flights to Phila. available. Took train from NY to Philly. The
cab to my parents who lived in Kensington. Got married on 6th of Jan. Then my
wife and I went to Westover AFB, Mass. for my last 15 mo. Made A/!C shortly
after getting there. Was assigned to HQ Sqdn. The had B-36's when I got there,
but they soon brought in B-52's to replace them. Quite an exciting day when they
all came in 1 by 1. That was SAC commaned by good old Gen. Curtis E. LeMay. I
would not trade that Air force 4 yrs. for anything.. my Broher went on to spend
23 yrs in USAF. He was in Logistics and worked with SR-71. My Son also joined
USAF in 1986 and became an Aircraft Mech. Las plane he worked on was F-16s and
part of his service was in Korea not far from where K-6 was...Hope I didn't bore
anyone with this story..I can be contacted @ williampirrung2@comcast.net.

During this time the 347 TFW had a constant presence at Osan AB. During the

month at Kunsan. Closed down our operation at Osan and remember how strange
the silence on C diamond was especially when the LOX plant shut down.

Was sent to Gifu Airbase in 1956. Joined up with 2nd Radio Relay Sqd. as an
APU mechanic. Went TDY to Korea in late 1956 to K55. Went overland to
Inchon and boarded an LCU. They sent us North in pretty rough seas. Found
out why I didn't join the Navy. Went to a little Island know as Tok Chok
Do..
I was driving a duce and a half with trailer in tow. Laid on the seat most
of the trip. Our mission was to set up a radio relay site. This was
accomplished and we operated the site for a couple of months.
While there 2nd Radio Relay moved to Kadena Airbase to Okinawa. When I left
Korea I met up with our Sqd. at Kadena.
After a short stay I was sent TDY to Formosa. We set up another relay site
just out side of Taipei. This was when Red China was shelling the islands
off the main land. These are some of the reasons that we were called the
Mountain Goats of the Far East. I have a certificate to show this. No
medal to show though. In case you are wondering I'm 82 years old.

My Uncle was Col. Robert F Lalonde, USAF Retired - he flew in three major
campaigns: WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Unfortunately, we lost him in 2015, but
pleasant memories of him linger! We would love to hear back from anyone who
has memories, photos, stories or know of a loved one who worked with him at
some point during his long career in the AF.

Here are a few tidbits of what I can recollect of Uncle Bob to better help
to identify him - he joined the AAF back in the 1940's, - flew biplanes, P-
51, B-17, B-29, DC-3, KC-135 refueling tankers - SAC at Omaha in the 1960's
- flew secret propaganda missions over China, etc - Flight commander for all
Russia recon flights from Alaska for last three years prior to retirement.
Stationed in the Phillipine's during WWII. He was a Command Pilot and
piloted VP of US sometimes. It was too painful for home to share many of his
missions even when he was in his 80's. He died at 93. He left me many AF
photos and old 8mm movies dating back to the 1940's, which I will share. He
was a terrific pilot and an exceptional human being! He was 6'2" and carried
a genuine winsome smile for everyone he met! I would be delighted to learn
what groups, squadrons, wings, divisions, etc of which he may have been a
part during any time in his long career.

I was an air traffic controller at McChord when the Pueblo was taken by the
North Koreans. Had orders for Palgong San K62 soon after that. Worked the
tower at Taegu K2 for a month with the ROFAF then ordered up to Palgong San.
We started the Taegu radar high altitude center using the air defense radar.
Winter was cold on the 4,000 ft mountain but duty was not bad. At least no
one was shooting at us like a lot of you guys during the war!

Did have some distraction on the mountain when we could talk a flight of
F4's to buzz the mountain with after burners. Our commander would go totally
nuts!

I have some pics of the place if anyone ever wants.

I served with the 67th Reconnaissance Technical Squadron ("Reccetech") at
Kimpo

squadron
was relocated to Itami AB in Japan just before Christmas, 1954. All
personnel with
MOTs before 12/31/54 were rotated back to the states, mine was January 5,
1955
so I was left behind along with one other airman until we were flown to
Tachikowa
AB in Japan on January 1 for return to the states. There were some other
units still
at Kimpo so I wound up doing mess check in the officers' mess hall.
My return stateside was by military sea transport from Yokohama to Adak, AK
to
pick up some Navy people and finally into Seattle, WA about January 15,
1955. My
next duty station was Walker AFB in Roswell, NM where I completed my four
year
active duty obligation.

Was never really stationed in Korea but during 1961-62 and
63 I flew with VR7-A making almost daily flights from
Tachikawa, Japan to Kempo, Korea. We carried Military
passengers all over the Far East and Korea was just one of
our many stops. One winter (very cold) the C121 I was
assigned to lost an engine on a landing approach at Kimpo,
that happened while I was on my off time at Tachikawa. I
had to report back to base since I was a senior Aircraft
Mechanic and load a new Engine onto a C124 and fly to Kempo
to do the engine change. It took several days to do a job
that should not have taken but a day. The aircraft was
parked out in the open and the wind and snow blew so hard
it was hard to see but just a few feet. Like I said at the
first, I was never stationed in Korea but I sure remember
it.

I served in Korea at K-55, in Base Operations from spring of
1957 until spring of 1958. I'm 80 years old and got enough
pleasure and satisfaction from the open bay barracks walking
a hundred yards to shower in sub-zero temps, and very little
to do other than drink and play cards, helped build an
orphanage off-base, along with a bunch of other wonderful
men, didn't shoot anyone nor get shot at. I feel deeply
today for all the folks who didn't get to climb on a C-124
and go home. Too many are still there. All the politicians,
the President and his crowd can keep the medal. I don't need
it. I, however, would love to hear from anyone who served
there during that time. I have stories and many photos to
share. My phone # is ( 850 ) 449-9102. Call anytime.

My LOX deployed Jan-July 1968 for 6 months from Naha AFB in
support of the 82FIS at Suwon AFB. At the time the ROK was
in charge of this base. Our fighters planes were constantly
on scramble mode because of the border violations by North

Korea. My section living quarters was in a ROK Quanson hut
supply room until Red horse built us a hardback tent at the
end of the runway by the LOX plant. We were 24 hours
operation making breathing oxygen for our fighters. I know
that in January, we all got sick with the flu but continued
working. I think the whole got sick since we came from
Okinawa.

We were glad to get the tent because the supply room could
only sleep 3 people and we had to alternate sleeping since
we were on rotating shifts. we had several infiltrations
until the ROK Army moved in around. We felt safer than.
They built foxholes and placements for their Antiaircraft
guns. We had more room now for our combat gear and make
shift wash area. I transferred from the Army to the USAF
because they had better quarters, but now we were in the
Army of the Air Force. After a few months we had our R&R at
Osan AFB. That was a real base.

We should have received a Expeditionary Ribbon for that,
but didn't get one.

PS: when we deployed from Naha the loadmaster forgot to
close the vent valve on the 2000 gal LOX tank. as we
started to get off the ground the lox started to come out
the over flow pipe. He said what can we do. I said close
the valve and pray the aircraft doesn't have any oil leaks.
That's my story. Member of the 51th Supply
Squadron /fuels/Lox plant at Naha AFB Okinawa 1968-1969
quartered down by big gun placement.

Never will forget the night we caught an old Korean man crawling under the perimeter fence with a jeep engine strapped to his back. Was on the island when the russians put up the first satellite into orbit around the earth. Sputnik I believe it was called. Spent some time at Itazuke AB near Fukuoka Japan during that time too. I remember Cheju as being a desolate place. Recently I saw a golf tournament being held at some beautiful resort on the island. they called it 'jeju' on tv. Would like some information regarding the 'medal' if it is available. I still have some black n white photo's of the island and a couple from Fukuoka Japan also, if anyone would like to see them email me at the above address and I will send them to you by email or regular mail. Thanks

I served in Korea from September, 1954 to October, 1955, on TopKick Relay, near Wonju and Kangnung on the east coast as a Radio and Radio Direction Finding Repairman. I recently met one of the Airman I was stationed with there 49 years ago and we had a blast in Branson, MO, during Veterans Day week. It was great. The Native American's were honored that week and the parade was superb with units of the VFW's, etc.

It would be nice to receive the Korean Service Medal. Any additional info needed let me know. My friend's EMAIL address is bigwindy98@aol.com

Thank you very much,
