After completing supply school at Francis E Warren AFB in May of 1952, I
was assigned to the 75th ADW and was in training all summer and most of
the fall. There was a rumor floating around that we would be deployed to
France but things didn't work out that way. On December 5th, 1952, we
were bussed from Kelly to Corpus Christi, and boarded the Gen. Gordon.
A few days later we sent through the Panama Canal to Balboa. We were
told we would be fed at the Navy's mess hall. The Navy cooks must have
gotten word of this and closed the mess hall. At least 2,500 of us
discovered the beer garden and what a mess we made. We drank all of the
cold beer, but still had the warm beer
We hit some real stormy weather about Christmas time with 30 to 35 foot
waves. We arrived at Pusan on January 2, 1953 and were transferred to
three LST's that took us on to K-10. It was bitter cold that night; I think
the coldest I have ever been. Things got better after a few days and I often
reflect backon those days. It was an experience that most of will never
forget.

I was at East Kelly for a few months in 1949 (lived in what was called The Palace as I remember, a huge stone building that held several sqdns.(1256 th ATS Sqdn) worked as a mechanic on C-54's. Then went over to south Kelly to work on C97's, lived in the old wooden barracks near the Lackland Flight Line, not exactly So Kelly. We only had six C97's and lost two by way of crashes. One crashed on June 6, 1951 as I recall just off base from So Kelly. I knew all the guys on board, all lost. I still have newspaper with the story and pictures. The other crashed on the runway in the fall of 1951.

Then I went to Mc Chord to fly on C 124's and was discharged in June 1952. Since then I fimd that one plane from my outfit crashed into a mountain in Alaska in Nov 1952, but never have gotten the names of those on board. Would like to know. Also would like to hear from anyone from any of these assignments.

I was a Radio Operator at K-10 from about October 53 til October 54. Buddies were Vic Krawczyk and Bob Herold and one other guy that I can't remember the name for the life of me. We spent many days in Chinhae and around the base taking pictures. Vic played the Accordion and played some at Duffy's Tavern in Chinhae. I lived in Tent City along the runway. I remember a P-51 landing with wheels up and nosing over in the bay. I have pictures of the crane lifting it out. I would love to hear from anyone who was at K-10 during that time.

I went from Scott AFB to K-10. A bunch of us met in Chicago and road the train to California. We boarded the USS Gordon on Jan 19, 1953...a date I remember, because Hank Williams died that day. 29 days on the water to Japan and a four hour train ride from Yokohama to the repo-depo...those who didn't get an assignment, raise your hands...I raised mine, along with 70 or so other guys, and that's when and how we found out we were headed to Korea. I was in the 102nd Comm Sqdn, and then the 75th Air Police Sqdn when they got their radio-equipped Jeeps. Got out of Korea and back to Seattle on Christmas eve...two days on a train to Chicago, and got back to Iowa on the 28th of December!

I was at East Kelly 1952 I remember the bus ride and that old ship, But it turned out to be a pretty good ship when we went though that bad weather. We did drink a lot of beer and we did leave a mess there. I turned 18 on that ship. I was in the motor pool, we hald a lot lumber and supplies from pusan and we ate a lot of dust, I also drove the truck that hald the drunks back to camp from town. I got out of the air force and went in the navy seabees, I spent two tours in vietnam, I retired in 1975 My home port was gulfport Ms.

Got to Lackland Dec 21,1950, went to Sheppard AFB for basic, Cpl Cowart squad leader. Then to Kelly for OJT as a clerk, went to Uof Okla for clerk typist school in summer of 50 or 51 cant remember. Clerked...Turned 21 in November 52, got too wasted at the Drive in just off post. The most memorable thing abouit the boat ride was the 12x12 beer spot in Pannama and 3000 thirsty Air men. The other was 'Due to inclemment weather, there will be no formal ships inspectiion day.' Do you remember how the tail of the ship would get out of the water. The dock at Pusan with the poop rail where the papa sans let it hang out..And the coldest day of my life was when we got off the LST at Chin Ha (Spelling) Man was it cold., But I can say it was not terrible. Do youi remember when Raymond Burr (Ironside) Came in on a camp show. George Orsatti and I MC'd one or two camp talent shows. We tried to sing, George played drums with the 75th Band And Cook, Phil was the bass player, but I don't have any thing to rember all the others. Records burned in the St Louis fire. If you Have any orders with my name in them, and some of my fellow Hq airmen I would love to refresh my memory. Rc4man....
