I'm trying to piece together the service record of my father who was KIA in Korea,
23 Jan 51. His records were destroyed in the St. Louis fire. From what I can
determine, I believe he flew a P-51 Mustang out of Kimpo (K-14) during the period
27 Oct 50 - 30 Nov 50 as part of the USAF 80th Fighter Squadron. He was originally
in the 80th Fighter-Bomber Squadron (F-80C's) in Itazuke, Japan. He reverted back
to the F-80's at the end of November, 1950 as Kimpo was retaken by the North in
December, 1950. Anyone with information about these units would be helping me a
lot.

I am here with my 95 year old Dad -Warren Joseph Lema. He was stationed at K 14
in 1953.
He was an aircraft mechanic worked on the F100 and others.
He recalls 2 pilots that were in competition for shooting down migs. Recalling
about 4 or 5 shot down each ……
Dad worked in the tank farm rebuilding external fuel tanks.
He went on to Europe and then served his final year in Viet Nam in 1967-1968.
Dad is still with us at almost 96 years old !
Thanks for your service!

I'm hoping to find any information or memories of my father in law Edwin Dayle

mechanic but I do not know which squadron. I do know that he worked on the A-

would talk about the day the NK MiG 15 landed.
I would appreciate any info.

Served at Kimpo AB 70 through 71. Assigned to Supply Sqd as a refueler. It
was an interesting tour. Things I remember: a friend of mine running down
toward the airport in his underwear in the middle of winter. Asked why, he
replied got catch my flight home. To much booze. Carrying M16 with no ammo
(whY?) and told to protect the fuel storage area. An idiot fired off his
weapon after leaving the weapons storage area. A friend of mine getting on
the shuttle at the NCO club swearing up a storm (missing that bell at the NCO
club did that to you) you missed you drank, never could hit it. Anyway, 6
American nuns on bus. Wow and yes he was from Philly and a devoted Catholic.

Greetings,
ISO any information about my late father's sole nephew Frank L. Simmons. His
photo shows him holding a rifle, foot on a jeep. His writing indicated Kimpo
Airfield 1954. I last saw him in about 1957-58 and know he's approx. 15yrs my
senior, so I presume age 86 or so. He is last known to have been living in
Colorado back in '84. Looking at his uniform and badge, from a family
portrait, I can not tell if he was in the army or air force. I've numerous
photos of him from post-birth to adulthood as well as of his father, Frank
Sr., my uncle who serve in Roswell, NM. Don't know if Frank Jr. is still alive
and have questions only he would know the accurate answers to.

I was an AAA AW platoon leader, D Btry, 76th AAA AW BN arrived Korea

September or October 1950. The battery stayed at K-14 and I set up the
AAA defense at the Parliament, Eighth Army and 5th Airforce HQs.
President Syngmon Rhee's Blue House was by the Parliament. That soft
assignment didn't last too long. Got orders to move north to K-29 Sinanju,
NK. Next was to be K-30 Sinuiju on the Yalu River. I was sent to locate AAA
gun positions at K-30 but Chinese entered war.
After a year in the 76th AAA I transferred to A Btry 865th AAA AW Bn.
Ended up at K-14 Kimpo of all places. Didn't leave Korea until March 2nd
1952, a total of 19 months.
October 1998 I was invited by my Korean interpreter Rhee Young Chan to
visit him. I had given him $200.00 to go back to the seminary to finish his
education. He was now retired. Took my son with me on that trip and we
had a terrific time. My wife just said she ready to tour SK. JACK

I was a lowly A/2C assigned to the 45th Tac Recon Squadron
on K-14 from June 1952 to July 1953 as an intelligence
specialist. The 45th was one of three squadrons in the
67th Tac Recon Wing. Most of the pilots were WWII retreads
with a sprinkling of new guys. Our basic airplane fleet
was F-51's which all of the old hands had flown before, but
the new guys who had been trained exclusively in jet
aircraft had a bit of trouble with the torque of the F-51's
reciprocating engine, or lack thereof when they chopped the
throttle preparing to land. We intelligence guys worked in
the Operations hut so we heard all of the stories. The
last American to die in that war was a Captain in the 45th
who was shot down during the 24-hour, cooling off period
while a part of an effort to take pictures to establish the
order of battle at the start of the armistice so we could
tell if the other side cheated on the terms agreed upon.
The only excitement we ground troops had was when "Bed-
Check Charlie", flying at tree-top level in a WWI biplane
with mortar shells hanging from the wings, which he
released by pulling on a wire, flew over in the dead of
night. We lit up the sky with AA fire but never could the
bugger. Colonel Beamer was the CO.

Patty the VA website shows that AO was sprayed on the DMZ
in '68,'69 and 1970. It does not list all of the storage
sites. Did your husband take weapons training on the DMZ? I
did in 1969. I was stationed at Kunsan AB, Korea.

Ross,
I was an air policeman on duty on the runway when Lt No landed his Mig. Arrived at his plane with 4-5 minutes. Had the unpleasant duty of confiscating cameras. I have regretted that for 54 years. I plan to meet Lt No (Kenneth H. Rowe)at the Souther Museum of flight here in Birmingham Alabama, hopefully around June-July 2007.
Regards
Tom
