In the summer of 1971 I was coach of the 56WRS softball team when the Rescue team had to cancel all of its games because they didn't have enough players. Since at the time of they forfeited all their games our team was in last place and we could draft any of their players. Well they had a black pitcher whose name was Gene Hudson and boy could he throw the ball. His right arm was at least twice as big as his left arm we rode that arm through the remainder of the season to a 7-5 record which qualified us for the playoffs. We swept through the winners bracket then lost our first game against the 5100 ABW but turned it around in the if-necessary game and won the championship. We couldn't have done it without Gene and if anyone happens to know him it would be great to get in touch with him. If interested I do have a copy of the Fuji Flyer article that chronicles our championship, so just ask and I'll email you a copy.
