I was at Shitosi AFB from age 6months to 5-6yrs old( Not sure age exactly). 1953-57? My Dad was an F86-Super Sabre pilot. He was a 1st Lt. then a Captain. His name was John J Tomarchio, nickname there was “Tom”.
I remember 6 ft snows, German Shepard puppies that guards allowed us to play with. I remember getting my Dad in trouble by walking across the flight lines to get snacks from the mess hall given out to us kids by the ladies that worked there.
I had a “mama son and papa son”. They took my sister and I to Tokyo. We went to the zoo, I remember Mt Fuji, and all the cherry blossums.
I vaguely remember going out to eat at places with paper walls and removing our shoes. To this day I still crave rice with soy sauce. Sticky rice. I still remember how to properly use chopsticks. On the 339th website I viewed 10 years ago, there was a picture of a Christmas parade. I was 1 yr old and sitting in the big sled in the picture.
I remember the demonstrations outside the gates protesting our presence there and the big red paper dragons the demonstrators displayed.
I am a 66yr old retired surgeon. I served 6 years in the USAF as an E2-E5 PJ( USAF PARARESCUE).
