I was pay agent to P Y Do, Jan 1, 1959.I had $25,000 in
MPCs. I asked the sargent in the finance office what would
happen if I came up short, he said well lieutenant, you
would just have to make it up.At $115 every 15 days, I make
sure I didn't come up short. A blizzard hit Jan 2. Every
thing on the island froze up. The oil lines from barrels
outside the hooches all frozen. there was no heat on the
island. I was in the latrine, sitting over the honey
buckets, the cold wind blowing between my legs and had to
laugh because the stove in front of me had about 8" of snow
on it. It was a real thrill to land on the beach in a C-47
with a 35 knot crosswind.

I was stationed at PY-Do in 55-56, then went on to join the airborne recon unit that began in '54 and flew out of Kimpo. We were a USAFSS radio intel unit on the island - hard to believe people actual chose to live there
