Comments: Lieutenant Colonel Canney was a member of Headquarters, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was seriously Killed in Action while fighting the enemy northwest of Yudam-ni, North Korea near the Chosin Reservoir on November 28, 1950. His remains were not recovered.

PN1195, 104th Congress. Posthumous promotion to Lieutenant Colonel by voice vote of the Senate on August 2 1996, Senate Armed Services Committee.
Husband of Mrs. John J. Canney of Washington, D.C. Son of Mrs. Josephine B. Canney of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
