Comments: Captain Brockmire was the pilot of a F-80C Shooting Star fighter interceptor with the 16th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 51st Fighter-Interceptor Group. On July 2, 1951, while on a combat mission, when the aircraft's tip tanks released and struck the stabilizer, causing the aircraft to crash and burn. He was known as "Red." He was one of the founding members of the "Acrojet" aerobatic team flying out of Williams Air Force Base. The team later evolved into the "Thunderbirds." The Acrojet team also flew in a movie title "Air Cadet."
Husband of Mrs. Mary L. Brockmire of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Son of William H. Brockmire Sr., and Mary Ann Schrader Brockmire.
