Comments: First Lieutenant McCarthy was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on October 5, 1951, when he stepped on an enemy land mine.
