Dear Mr. Barker:

I reached your "LOOKING FOR- KOREA" through the Korean War Homepage on
the WWW. I am interested in contacting anyone who may have served with
my father Capt. JOHN D. NADELHOFFER. Here are some statistics and a
brief history.

John (Jack) D. Nadelhoffer, Captain, US Marine Corp Reserve
Home: Gurnee, Illinois
Service number: 037971
First Marine Air Wing
Marine Air Group 12
Fighter Squad #212
KIA: January 26, 1952

Capt. Nadelhoffer flew close air support missions off the U.S.S Badoeng
Straights ("jeep" class aircraft carrier). After his F4U-Corsair was
hit by anti-aircraft fire over the Korean mainland, he attempted to
return to his carrier but was forced to bail out over a small island
(Korin Do) on North Korea's western coast. His wingmate thought that he
was hit by the tail wing of his Corsair, but in any case his parachute
never opened. The island was held by U.N. forces at the time and his
family was informed shortly afterward that he was buried by friendly
forces in a "temporary" grave. After North Korea recovered the island,
his body was never returned. It is officially classified as "non-
recoverable", although we suspect that his remains would be recoverable
if we had more normal relations with North Korea. Capt. Nadelhoffer
left a young widow (Elizabeth, then 22) and a son (Knute John, then 19
months). His second son, John D. Nadelhoffer, was born 1 month after
his death.

If you served with Capt. Nadelhoffer, or knew him during his Korean War
service, I would very much like to hear from you. My address is
Knute J. Nadelhoffer
58 Oakwood Ave
Falmouth, MA 02450

e-mail: knute@mbl.edu

Thank you very much for providing this service.

Sincerely,
Knute Nadelhoffer

I am very excited to find this on the internet. I don't if you will be
able to help me or not, but it's worth a try. My father was
TSGT.Charley "L" Radford. He was a Marine fighter pilot. The second week
of September 1950, he left my mother and I in Waco, Texas with my
grandparents.

All I have of his military record is his flight log. My mother dearly
loved my father but was never able to really talk to me about his
military life.

All I know about him is how he was a wonderful husband and a great father
for the nine months he was with me. The last entry in his flight log is
December 3, 1950. The previous entries indicate that he was flying an
F4U-5 for "strike", "recon.", "escort", and "close air support".

I believe his military number may be 303246, but I'm not sure.

I would really like to know more about what he did and how he died. I
would also like to get in touch with anyone who knew him.

I appreciate your attention to this and any help you can offer. You can
reach me by phone at home 817-279-0631 or at the school where I work
817-237-1491 ex 629.

My mailing address is
2616 Spanish Ave.
Granbury, TX,76048
or you can reach me at my e-mail address
charlenemc@earthlink.net.

Thanks

He was last seen crashing about 2 miles NW of P'ungch'on 12/6/51
flying a Crusader from the USS Rendova. The F80 crashed 11/5/50 so that
if the plane was identified on the ground it is probably not William.

Dear Mr. Barker,

I have been able to locate the Korean Conflict records for the above
casualty.

What I am trying to find out is how I could find the burial location?
Are there government records that could assist me in determining what
happened to his body, was there a body, or ?

Thus far the search at the hometown of Harrisionburg has not uncovered a
marker in his name.

Your assistance will be appreciated.
