Dear Mr. Barker:
I am looking for information about my biological father. Attached is a
photograph of him with my mother, Fumiko Muira taken on March 2,
1951. He was stationed at Johnson Air Force Base, where my mother
worked as a seamstress.
He died in Korea, at the frontline, before Fumiko was able to tell him
that she was pregnant. I was born, Toyohiko Muira, in Kawagoe-shi,
on September 8, 1952.
I do not know my father's name, except that Fumiko called him
D.Ki. My mother Fumiko died on March 20, 1956 in a traffic accident.
On August 13, 1956 I was adopted by M. Sgt Jerome F. Renk, AF13011156,
Det 3, 1st Air Postal Sq, APO 994, USAF and his wife Wilma Renk. They
knew Fumiko from the base. Shortly after my adoption we returned to the
United States. I had a good childhood with my adoptive parents.
Eventually I graduated from Cornell University with a Ph.D. in Physics.
Out of respect, I never asked them about my adoption and they never
spoke of it. They have since passed on.
In 1989 I was able to locate Fumiko's younger sister Takako. We wrote to
each other for 7 years, until the fall of 1996 when my wife, daughter
and I were able to visit her in Japan. There I met the rest of my
Japanese family. It was a most profound experience.
I lived with Takako and my Japanese grandparents in Kyushu for the first
3.5 years of my life. Takako was able to tell me a great deal about my
mother Fumiko and my early life in Japan. She gave me the photograph of
my father. Hearing stories about my mother made me realize how much like
her I am. I would like to know the same about my father. Unfortunately
no one in the family knew my father.
I was told that my father worked as some type of war correspondant,
perhaps with radios.
He most likely had blue or green eyes, since my daughter has pale green
eyes.
I was hoping that through the Korean Project someone might see this
photograph, recognize my father and/or mother and contact me. Any
information would be appreciated.
Is it possible to get a list of those KIA in the USAF in Korea during
1952?
I have made several attempts on the web but remain unsuccessful. I am
not sure how best to approach this search for my father. Any
suggestions would be helpful.
Sincerely,
Timothy Jerome Renk

My father served in this unit in Korea, and I am trying to find
information on his military service both in Korea and WWII. I am
impressed with this site. If there is something I can to help, let me
know.
Thanks.

Dear Sir,
My dad was stationed at Kimpo AFB 1951-52 . He was part of the 4th
Fighter wing 335th or 334th inceptor unit. He has always wanted to go
back to visit Korea . He was wondering if his unit was going to
possibly have a 50th get together or not. I've looked on the internet
trying to find some info but have been unsucessful. If you have any
information on a 50th reunion for Korean War could you contact me.
Thank you !
