Would like to know how the world has been treating you. Remember we
are supposedly the "forgotten war vets", well I didn't forget.
We had visiting pilots from Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Italy, The
Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and even Turkey.
The outfit that replaced us was the 136th Fighter-Bomber Group.
Call me if you're still alive!

I was attached to the 27th Ftr Wg (523rd Squadron of the 27th Fighter
Escort Wing from Itazuke Air Base)for 56 missions and transferred to the
49th as they were converting to the F-84E from F-80's.
I helped train pilots of the 49th at Itazuke, Japan then moved to K-2 at
Taegu to finish my missions. I flew a total of 101 missions.
The Squadron Co. was a Major Bud Elrod and Group Co. Col William L.

Have enjoyed this site very much. My wife's father was Capt. Robert H
Walker. He was a pilot assigned to the 522nd FES/27th FEW. Had been
to Misawa Air Base, Japan only about 10 days when he was killed in an
aircraft accident.
According to correspondence to his parents from Col. Donald J. M.
Blakeslee, Commanding Officer, "The circumstances surrounding Bob's
death are these: On 29 October 1952, Bob was instructed to get airborne
with his two ship element on a practice scramble mission. The aircraft
caught fire on take off too far down the runway for him to stop. When he
was airborne,he was too low to bail out and he attempted a belly
landing.
The aircraft exploded on impact and death was instant." My wife and I
would like to hear from anyone who served with her father. We would
also like to see his name added to the KIA data base, unless, of course,
he is not qualified due to the "practice" aspect of his death.

Interested in where abouts of members of the 524th Fighter Escort
Squadron, 27th Fighter Escort Wing, Bergstrom AFB, Tx - 1952 to 1958
Our Wing, the 27th Fighter Escort Wing in Bergstrom was assigned TDY to
Omissawa, Hokkaido, Japan in October 52 for about 5 months. Our pilots
patrolled the Korean border during that time, but there were no
incidents. You know... Eisenhower was trying to wind it down.
