Subject: Air Force Unit AACS 1809 Group

I served in Air Force Unit 1809 AACS Group in Nagoya, Japan,
(guess 1948 - > 51).
Would like to hear from anyone else in my old group.

The l809th Group (under l808th Wings and M.A.T.S) provided control tower
services throughout Japan and later in Korea. Checking long & short range
homing beacons, G.C.A., providing radio frequencies(crystals), tower
equipment, etc. The Group operated of of Nagoya's downtown Sumitomo building
and its air strip outside the city. Used 2 or 3 C-47's and I believe a
Douglas A-26 (?). Colonel Willis S. Johns was the C.O. Group had several
squadrons and a few detachments under its control. Can only recall sites at
Osaka,Misawa,Yokota,Tachikawa,Itazuke,Miho and Bofu. Pilots assigned in
Operations performed required flight checks and field operations. The l809th
Group had been previously located in the F.E.A.F. (Far East Air Force)
building in Tokyo, near MacArthurs headquarters across from the Imperial
Palace.
