Would like to get info on VF-111(sundowners) We were in Korea aboard the
USS Boxer in 1953 and were there when the ceasefire was announced.
Don't know if the squadron is still at NAS Miramar or what. If anyone
knows, please Email me:
(gkske@aol.com)
Thanks

It was a pleasant surprise to see my old squadron VF-lll listed in the
K-war archives. I was on the Boxer in 53 with VF-lll and stayed with
the squadron until my separation date July, 1955 at T.I. since we off
loaded at NAS Alameda. In answer to an another/any other person/s
interested, the squadron is now located at NAS Fallon, NV.
I understand that the entire base of NAS Miramar is now under the
command of the USMC.
I still have an old cruise book from the USS Wasp, the last carrier on
which I was based with VF-lll. The first CVA I was on was the
USS Boxer.
If any of the old suadron shipmates would like to contact me,
my e-mail is as follows: Amcl111@aol.com.
Anybody still out there?

I haven't found anything yet ref: VF 194. I was in this "Fightron" from
1950 till 1954. We were reassigned from CAG 19 to a new type of air
group called Air Task Group One. ATG -1 consisted of VF 0194, (AD 3's
& 4's), VF-52,(F9F's), VF- 111(F9F's), & VF 653,(F4U Corsairs).
Navy Carrier Squadrons in the Korean War were home-based at various
Naval Air Stations, and were assigned to available Carriers for 2-week
"Carrier Quals" (training),and also for overseas duty. In our case, we
spent a few weeks operating out of Pearl for additional training
before continuing on to Korean waters.
