His name was Larry E. Nelson from LaCrosse Wisconsin. My brother served aboard the USS Whetstone in 1960 - 1961. He was a Fire Control Technician and had returned from a tour to the south pacific and came home on leave for the Christmas holidays(1961) and was killed in an auto accident on Christmas Eve.
