Dear Sir,

My father was inquiring about the USS Orleck DD 886 which he served on
between 1952-53. I found your website which listed all the ships etc.

However ,there was no information om the DD 886. Any information you
could provide me with would greatly be appreciated.

You can E-mail me at ARYAN3@bellsouth.net

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

I served on the Orleck DD886 from 1951-53. Transfered to Adak Alaska
1953 With Mob#9, Sand Bay Alaska 1953, U.S.S. Sperry AS-12 1954-59,

Company Commander 1959-62, U.S.S. Isle Royale AD29,
U.S.S. Piedmont AD15, Shipfitters "A" School 1970-72

I was assigned to the shipfitters shop, Can't seem to recall the 2nd
class in charge, but will someday. Three of the men that were in the
shop Green ME3, Blaylock DC3, Davis ME3. I was the only Pipefitter on
board, FPFA when I went aboard and FP3 when I left.

The Ships duties were to search out and destroy trains and cripple the
supply of arms and equipment. We hit and destroyed one train and caused
much work to the enemy.

I can remember them firing the five inch guns all night, they would
rebuild the next day, that night we would fire again. This kept up for
thirty days at a time.

We ran with the Perkins, Parks & John R. Craig. We were hit one time
with a small shell, did a small amount of damage, a hole about 10 inches
in the 40MM shield.

On an added note: my two great-uncles served on the USS Orleck and the
USS Forest Royal. If anyone has information about the routes of these
ships, please let me know. I'm a history major and I am forming my
family tree.

Any help would be appreciated. My great-uncles, whom are brothers are
Charles T. Mccullough and Robert Mccullough.

More: The specifics you've asked for about my uncles are stated below:

Charles T. Mccullough: served on the Orleck from 1951-54 as a 3rd Class
broilerman. He then went to serve on the USS Forest Royal. Deceased in
1974.

Robert Mccullough: served on the Orleck from October 1952-September
1954 as a 2nd Class broilerman. From there, he served on the USS
Hancock until 1955, when he was honorably discharged for a needed
operation.

Still living.

Thanks again,
Laura Smith
