To give you short highlites I went aboard in Norfolk as ENFN right out of Diesel School {Grt Lks] . We took a Load of Marines to the Inchon Invasion. We made Wonson Invasion, evacuated 3000 So Koreans who were in line to be exceuted. We went up a river with the USS Noble APA??? . She was following us through a mine field. The Noble took a wrong turn and ran aground. That left us to pick up all the gooks at Chinnampo. This at the time was roughly 80 miles behind enemey lines. We headed South with them and one lady had a baby. This automatically made it a US Citizen. The parents named it after the ship "KIM NOGEN" WE later evacuated Inchon, Wonson hamhung and went back to Inchon. The USS Okanogan was awarded 6 Battlestars for Korea. I only received 4 as I was off her in June 52. The Okanogan was in the Okinawa Invasion in WW2, the Korean war and the Vietnam War. It is now travelling the American highways as a HONDA. I made 2nd Class Engineman before I left her. I spent time in the LCVP's, LCM's and was in the Salvage boat which was a converted LCPR. If you wouldlike any hard copies of these stories I have some and can send to you by snail mail. One is a write up in the Rever Mass. n ewspaper by another shipmate of mine. We have annual reunions and good turn out. I'd like to see the Okie's name in with the other Transport/Attacks. If you need more info advise. swabbie@wcoil.com
