The USS Menard APA201 active in both WWII and Korea has now had its 8th reunion and is planned through the year  2000

Menard (APA 201) was laid down by Kaiser Co., Vancouver,WA., 12 July
1944; Launched 11 October, 1944; acquired bt the Navy 31 October, 1944;
and commissioned the same day at Astoria, Or., Comdr James B. Bliss in
command.

She sailed for Hawaii and then on to  the American bases in the 
Marshalls, Carolines, and the Palaus. She was assigned to 
Transport Div 14 in Leyte Gulf.  She was involved in the landing on 
Okinawa.  

After taking occupation forces into Nagasaki she was assigned Magic 
Carpet  Duty Shuttling Veterans back to the States.

Menard was decommissioned in San Francisco 14 June 1948.  She was
recommissioned 2 December 1950 She spent the next 4 years in support of
the Korean forces engaged in the Korean War and finally winding up as 
part of the Passage to Freedom in the Vietnamese era.  She returned to 
the west coast  in Mid summer 1955 and was decommissioned 18 October 
1955.

She remained berthed at Longbeach and was stricken from the Navy list on
1 September 1961.  She received one battle star for WWII and 3 stars for
Korean Service.

We will be holding our 8 th reunion of crew from WWII and Korea  in
Bardstown, Kentucky on Sept 21 thru 27, 1997.  For more information
