My father served in the US Navy during the Korean War. I've copied him on
this e-mail.

My Dad has given me his Navy memorabilia including letters home,
photographs, essays, etc. I am considering putting a Web site together
to let folks know what it was like to be in the Navy during the late
forties and early fifties.

Dad was a Storekeeper on the USS ESTES ACG-12 when it was the Flagship
for Rear Admiral Tom B. Hill Commander Amphibious Group One, Commander
Task Force 90.

He participated in the Koje-Do Prison Riot supression in February 1952.
He has a great story about this action that includes having to climb
down the landing nets into the waiting boats during rough seas.

On 10 June of 1952 he transfered from ESTES to USS LENAWEE, APA-195.

Later in'52 he served on LST 836.

In the Fall of 1952 he participated in Operation IVY the Atomic Tests at
Eniwetok Proving Grounds, Marshall Islands conducted by the Army, Navy,
Air Force, and Atomic Energy Commission.

Any way, thanks again for keeping the memories alive. I have included a
picture of my father and some of his buddies on liberty in Japan in 51.

best regards,
