I am Co-Founder and Chief Recruiting Officer of the USS John R.
Pierce DD-753 Sailors Organization Inc. We have reunions every
year and in 98 it will be our 8th year.

Our flag ship was the Barton DD-722, Soley DD-707 and Strong DD-758
were also with us.

When the Barton hit the mine out at sea we were the ship that took on
the flag officers and brought them back to the States 3 months later.

I also believe that up to that date 6/52-9/52 we were the worst ship hit
by shore battery to that date. That happened on 8/6/52.

When the Barton hit the mine she was out with TF-77. Later in that
summer we were off the cost of N. Korea protecting a ROK held island.

It had 500 ROK soldiers on it a 9 US Marines. They were used to
infiltrate N.Korea. The jets, from TF-77 caught a train going down the
coast and they stopped it. We were treading water trying to keep the
guks from re-building the tracks, as it was between two mountains.

This was on August 6, 1952. Later in the day they hit us with everything
but BB-Guns. After it was all over with they called it superficial
damage. We were about 1/4 mile off the beach when they opened up. They
knocked out everything but MT 53.

They even knocked out our radio. As we turned and headed out to sea you
could hear the shells over head from the "Big Mo" who was out with the
TF firing those 16" guns.
