I'm looking for survivors of E Co., 2nd Bn, 8th Cav. Rgt., the
Battle of Unsan (31 Oct 50 - 2 Nov 50). Specifically looking for
information on platoon rosters. This will aid in the identification of
remains brought back from Unsan, North Korea.

Also, if you hear of any reunions for this organization (E Co, 2/8th
or just 2/8th) please let me know. We have TDY funds to attend
some of these functions.

Subject: Major Robert Blaine Straight

Dear Mr. Barker

I am looking for any information on my father:

       Major Robert Blaine Straight
       Born: August 10, 1918
       Serial Number: O-425602
Assigned to: 8th Calary, 1st Calvary Division

My father was listed Missing in Action aginst the enemy in North Korea
on November 2, 1950 and presumed dead on December 31, 1953.

From the limited information I have recieved, my father was reported
missing in action in late November, 1950 when his regiment was overrun
by Chinese communist forces in the vicinity of Usan and Kunu-ri in
North Korea.

He was subsequently declared dead under a presumtive finding of
death on December 31, 1953. He was never reported to have been
captured, but his remains were never accounted for.

Thank you.

Janice Straight Bloodsworth

----from KWP----

Many of the men captured or killed in this action in the North, have
never been properly accounted for. In many cases, the men were buried
where they died.

MR EDWARD P REGAN
dkhw65a@prodigy.com

Mr. Barker,
As a hobby, I put out a newsletter to men who served with
D Company, 2nd Btn, 8th Cav, 1st Cav Div from 1965 to
1972.

So far, my mailing list is about 450 who served in the Company from
9/65 to 6/72. I have a listing I call the Honor Roll, with names of
Company members who are on the Wall. The list is far from complete.

Is there any way I can find the names of KIA'S of men who served in my
Company? I am especially interested in the listing for:

May 10, 1972 when one entire Platoon, the Company Commander and his two
RTO's were killed in a chinook helicopter crash.

I would appreciate any help you could give me. You are doing a fine job
with your web site. Check out our site at:

 http://pages.prodigy.com/AIRCAV

Thanks. Ed Regan

----contd----

Ted,
Keep an eye on our D 2-8 webpage (you can click directly off Simon's
Vietnam page). I'm going to send Mike McGhie an updated Honor Roll of
D 2/8 in tomorrow's mail. There are 50 names from 1965 to 1970. Mike
wants to post it on the web site. Stay tuned.

Keep up the good work. By the way, do you have any historical
information on the Battle of Unsan in Nov 1950 when the 3/8 Cav
got wiped out; the 2/8 Cav lost about half; and the 1/8 Cav held the
back door? There is an 8th Cavalry Regiment Association whose
Secretary lives in Cleveland. The group is mostly Korean War Vets. Ed.

3rd Battalion, I Company

I have been doing research on the Korean War and am writing to you to
see if you might be able to suggest how I can find out some specific
information concerning the death of my cousin during the war.

My cousin was PFC. Roy Lee Allen, USA 560 76 851 and he was KIA
on October 17, 1951. He was a soldier in the 8th Cavalry Regiment,
3rd Battalion, I Company.

My research leads me to believe he was probably killed during Operation
Commando, which began October 3, 1951 and lasted 16 days.

Operation Commando involved the 1st Cavalry Division to which the 8th
Cav. belonged and apparently was fought in the hills around a place
called Old Baldy.

What I'm looking to do is to confirm that in fact my cousin died where
I believe he did or if not to find out where he fell. The Korean War
history books get sketchy about the specifics of the battles after
Heart Break Ridge as the war bogged down in the interminable peace
talks.

I would very much appreciate any leads you could give me (such as
a regimental history of the 8th Cav., for example).

Thank you very much for your time and any help you can give me.

Dear Mr. Barker,

My father is holding a reunion for members of Medical Company,
8th Cav of the 1st Cavalry Division which served in Korea during the
war. His unit was known as Scrappy Pill. He is also looking for a 1st
lieutenant Tenseman who served with the 8th Cav and was wounded and
sent back to Tokyo in, I believe, September 1950. If I am not mistaken
it was September 12th 1950 when this lieutenant was wounded. I can not

I can get more details on any of this information you might need.

Transferred to Hq/Hq Co 8th Cav Regt 27 Jan 1951. I was with G Co from
Dec 1948 to Jul 1951, and knew most of our officers first hand.

Although I recall his name quite clearly, I cannot put a face with the
