Re: 13 Oct50, Action near Paekchon, N. Korea

Dear M. Barker,

Recently, I've obtained old correspondence regarding my father's
death, KIA at the subject location/time Capt. Michael Herko, Jr.

Can you suggest some on-line, or other resources to check regarding the
nature of battle at that time, or prior to that time?

Mother responded to news of his death by stowing away all memorabilia. I
now have access to it and am learning more about a man's life of which I
otherwise know little.

Yes western Korea is where their unit had action. This confirms that his
last address was HQ 77th FA BTN (Joined about 9/30 near Anson). Prior to
that he was Battery C 15th FA BTN.

At the time of his death his commander was CB Huntley, the Executive
Officer was Nash O Thompson. The chaplain was Thomas McGuire.

By the way, the correspondence I have shows the above individuals to have
exemplary character and devotion to their duty.

Thank you for your help and attention.

Sincerely,

Frantz Michael Herko

Just wanted to say thanks for a great site on the Korean War. My great
uncle Hobert Earl Meadows was killed in action on 13 October 1950.

He was a Cpl. with the 77th Field Artillery Bn 105mm, 1st Cavalry Div.

Anyway, I just recently received a report from the National
Archives about the ambush that occurred on his battery (H&S) on the date
of his death. 33 soldiers were killed and 28 others were wounded. I was
wondering if any of the survivors were out there somewhere and could
tell me a little more about what happened to those soldiers. Don't know
exactly where this might fit in with your site but would appreciate any
information you might be able to give me.
Thanks so much for your time.

Sincerely,

Lora Blom

My name is Charlie Reid(CBOaktree@aol.com). I am looking for any
information about my Brother who was killed On Oct 13.1950.

He was in the 79th AAA gun Battalion (120-MM) 35th AAA Brigade, But
he must have been transferred to the 77th Field Art Batt,1st Cavalry
Div. Because that is what he was in when he was killed.

A printout from the Korean War Veterans Honor Roll Has it that he was
killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Paechon, South Korea,

Thanking you in advance for any help you can give me.

Yours,
Charles Reid.
