A co, 71st Tk Bn. was first in combat in Korea w/ 24 Th Inf Div early
in july 1950 before the 1st Cav landed.

We First fought with Gen Dean at Teajon. After the Cav got there we
were reassigned to the Cav. We lost 20 of our 22 light tanks {M 24} in
the first few weeks of combat. We could not penetrate the armor on the
Russian tanks with our 75mm guns. After we lost our tanks in combat, we
survivors were enough to form a maachine-gun platoon. We spent the
next 30 days on the line as infantry.

We were awarded the combat infantry badge. This combat was in the
bowling alley.

NOTE:

My name is Edward Brazelton. When compiling any history of Co. A
71st Hv Tk Bn., I would appreciate the opportunity to provide some
input into the compilation.

I joined the company in April or May of 1950 at camp Chigasaki, Japan.
I was with the Co. until we were deactivated as a unit. We lost 20 of
22 tanks in the first few weeks of combat. After this we were assembled
into a machine gun platoon. We spent 30 consecutive days on the line
as infantry north of Taegu, in an area called the Bowling Alley.

I am presently detailing, as much as I can remember, in writing. You
are welcome to this information.

I am dismayed at the total lack of acknowlegement in the history
books, including the 1 Cav Div History in Korea,of the contribution of
the Men of Co. A 71st tk bn. We were deactivated because of our
decimated numbers.

Thank you.
