I served in the lst Cav from Nov 1950 to Nov 1951. I Joined the
Division and assigned to the Hq Btry, 61st FA Bn as a Personnel
Clerk in Division Rear. In March 1851 I was assigned as Battery
Clerk in C Battery. At that time the First Sergeant was
Corneilus J. Tuggle.
Later in early June 1951 I was assigned to Company L, 5th Cav Regt
on the Forward Observer Team. A lst Lt Bonefoy was the Team FO.
After Lt Bonefoy was moved to,I believe, K Co, 5th Cav a Lt Shambora
became the FO. I Stayed with the Company L for the rest of my tour
and went off the hill on the 25th of October, I believe the Location of
our position was Hill 222, just North the Imjin River and above the
Wyoming OPLR.
I believe this was the area that was called the Iron Triangle. During
this time L Co had a lot of casualties and most of the Platoon leaders
were killed or wounded. Some of the people I remember in Hq Battery
Personnel Section were,
Joseph Lewerk,
Cpl Joe Trujillo,
I. J. Beeks was 82d FA Bn),
Sfc William Gordon,
Sfc Sterling Clark,
Spr Edward Boyd,
Cpl Moore (Btry clerk..
Others in Battery C were Pfc Pete Coppeck, Pfc King, Pfc Shaw.

Hi my name is Jessica Hinkle. I am the Grandaughter of William R. Hinkle
who is an Ex-POW of the Korean war.My Grandfather wanted me to try and
help locate an Ex-POW friend of his.
The friend of my grandfather is Harold E. Beldon. He was last seen in
camp number 5 where my grandfather and him were held captive.
My grandfather was then moved to a different camp and that was the last
time my grandfather ever saw or heard from him again. At the time of the
war he was known to be living in Pomona, California. My grandfather did
find out that he was released from camp 5 around September of 1953.
This is all the information I have and I would be so very greatful if
you could help my grandfather and I out on trying to find his long lost
friend that he cares so deeply for. If anyone has any information on the
where abouts of Harold E. beldon please contact:
William R. Hinkle at (304)645-7837.
My grandfather is from Lewisburg, West Virginia.
Thank you and God Bless
