I was assigned to the 5th Field Artillery Group in the first half of 1953 as an aircraft mechanic in our Headquarters Battery at A-38, located southwest of the Hwach'on Reservoir, north of Chunchon. At that time we were considered to be in North Korea since we were north of the 38th Parallel. I'm also looking for the organizational make up of the 5th FA Gp, i.e., personnel, battalion designations, when the group was formed, etc. The three battalions that made up our Group consisted of a 105(SP) Unit, a 155 (SP)Unit and an 8 inch(SP) Unit. For the life of me I can't remember their designations. Our mission was to support the ROK Infantry divisions in our sector. We were not part of any American division, but a stand alone group of the 8th Army. Also, do you know of any Army maps that define the location of the Army airfields in Korea at that time. As you probably know, all the Army airfields are designated with an A-(no.). The Air Force designated theirs with a K prefix. I was later stationed at A-5 at Chunchon with the 6th Helicopter Company prior to shipping home. Flew as a crew member on H-19 helicopters during the prisioner exchange and transporting the Indian Peace Keeping Force to Panmunjom. Lawrence J. Gilbert
