I enlisted in the 40th Div in 1948 We were activated on Sept 1,1950 to
prepare to go to Korea. We spent several months at Camp Cook, Ca
(now known as Vandenberg Air Base).
We were then transported by Naval Ship to Japan for pre-combat training.
My unit, Hq&Hq&Sv Co 578th Combat Eng, was stationed south of Sendi at
an Installation called Matsushima next to the village of Yamoto. We did
all of our training in the northern part of Japan.
We left Japan for Korea on or about September 1951, I and several others
from the battalion left in July as a advance party. We landed at Enchon,
and were transported by truck north of the 38th parallel to Kumsong
Valley. I left Korea in June 1952 and was released from active duty in
July 1952.
