Hi Ted
I joined the unit in Jan 54 shortly after it had moved to West and
slightly north of Chunchon from an area called Kumwah Valley (SP).

Don't remember much of the unit history prior to that time frame. We
closed the hosp in Feb 55, those remaining personnel were then sent to
the 44th MASH in the I corps area near Musani. We closed that unit and
moved the 44th to what had been the 1st Marine Div Easy Med hosp at or
near Munsani.

I returned to the states shortly thereafter.

On a subsequent tour of duty in Korea (72-73...yes I was a lifer but
with the USAF) I contacted the registrar's office at the 121st Evac Hosp
in Seoul and learned that the 44th is still on the books at 8th Army but
is inactive. Also during that tour I had the opportunity to re-visit the
site of the old 47th near Chunchon. The Quonset huts were still
standing and were being used as a radio/comm school for the Rok Army.

As an aside. I was recently contacted by an individual in Maine who saw
my posting on the web site. He was interested in learning if I had
known his father who also served with the 47th.

Turns out his dad was my NCOIC in the pre-op section. Sent him copies of
some old pictures I had and he was tickled pink to have received all
the info I provided him.
