Comments: Lieutenant Junior Grade Evans a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was the pilot of a F9F-2 Pantherjet fighter with Fighter Squadron 93, aboard the aircraft carrier USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CVA-47). On February 16, 1953, while attacking bridges and interdicting railways, his aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft fire and crashed into the water. He was listed as Missing in Action.

DPAA: Lieutenant Junior Grade Hubert T. Evans joined the U.S. Navy from Ohio and was a member of Fighter Squadron 93. On February 16, 1953, he took off from the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea (CVA-47) piloting an F9F-2 Panther (bureau number 123440) on a combat flight over enemy territory. After the mission, as the Panther made its approach to return to the Philippine Sea, it crashed into the water. The Panther quickly sank, and there was no indication that LTJG Evans escaped the aircraft before it went under the water. Search and rescue efforts failed to recover LTJG Evans, and he has not been associated with any remains returned to U.S. custody after the war.
