Comments: Private First Class Kirkland was a member of the 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on September 7, 1950.

After World War II, as "Odessa Kirkland," he enlisted in the Army at the age of 14, SN17227631. He was apparently discovered and reenlisted by reversing his first and last name, He used the reversed name until he died. Most official databases used his appropriated name. Editor Notes May 17 2019.
Son of L. B. Kirkland and Helen Kirkland of Levelland, Texas, brother of James Odes. Brother of Mrs. Eva Sales, of Houston, Texas.
