Comments: Captain Nordell was the pilot of a F9F-5 Pantherjet fighter with Marine Fighter Squadron 311, Marine Air Group 33, 1st Marine Air Wing. On July 17, 1953, while on a combat mission, his aircraft failed and he bailed out over the Sea of Japan near Pusan, South Korea. Rescue efforts was unsuccessful. His remains were not recovered. LOST 17 MILES EAST OF PUSAN AFTER CONTACT WITH USS NEW JERSEY. He was flying in a two aircraft formation and may have collided with Lt. Frank L. Keck, Jr., his wingman.
Son of Iver E. Nordel and Kathleen C. Nordell of Greeley, Colorado.
