Comments: Sergeant Mausert was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On September 12, 1951, his unit was assaulting on heavily fortified enemy position on Hill 673 near Songnap-yong, Korea. Without regard for his safety, he exposed himself to enemy fire to rescue two wounded comrades. Although seriously wounded, he continued to lead the attack and again exposed himself to enemy fire to divert fire from his men. He destroyed several enemy positions until mortally wounded by enemy grenades and machine-gun fire. Entered service at Dresher, Pennsylvania, born Cambridge, New York. His nickname was "Rick." Grandson of Henry L. Mausert of North Adams, Massachusetts. Nephew of Lt. Col. Clayton L. Mausert and Lt. Col. Ryerson M. Mausert.
