Hi Ted:The "Mud Wagon" was the name the guys lovingly gave to the Red cross weapons carrier that the Red cross girls drove down the flight line, twice a day, rain or shine, and brought hot coffee and fresh doughnuts, as much as you wanted, to every outfit on the line.
They did this seven days a week and was really a bright spot in our day. They also had a canteen that was across the field that was open 24 hours a day and also had hot coffee and fresh donuts and games, if you wanted them, and also letter writing materials.
It was very nice. When I wrote home and told my mother about the way the Red Cross treated us she immediately went and volunteered to help them out.
She kept that up for at least 25 years, cooking in the Red Cross Bloodmobile canteen. That turned out to be quite a payoff for them.
Don.
