Prologue to " The Capture "
From George Matta, Jr. to the Barker's of the KWP:I have visited your web site for the Korean War Project and wanted to tell you how much it meant to me to read about the feelings expressed by the sons and daughters of other POW/MIA.
For a long time I didn't understand my father. He always seemed a little different from most of the other fathers I knew.
My father spent over two years in Camp 1, Camp 4, and Camp 5 during the war. His life long dream has been to have his story and the story of his buddies in the various POW Camps published. I have completed a manuscript that I will get published as my way of thanking him and his buddies for all they did.
Having done the research, especially going through his memorabilia, letters, notes, and most importantly, really talking to him about it I now feel as deeply as he does.
I am very glad to find that other sons and daughters have those feelings as well. It tells me that the men and women who became America's POWs and MIAs will truly not be forgotten, at least by my generation.
I am a retired Air Force CMSgt and a Vietnam era vet who also served during Dessert Shield/Dessert Storm. Part of my fathers legacy is the pride that he instilled in me of the military and the love I have for this country.
