David H. Vanderwart of Hackensack NJ, attended Hamilton College NY, WW II officer in S.Pacific. He was a 1st LT, then a captain or company commander (temporarily I think). Settled in Syracuse NY after the war.
Herman Vanderwart Jr of Hackensack NJ,attended Hamilton College NY. WW II officer aboard the USS Wharton (AP-7),then recalled to Camp LeJeune to be AMTRAK tactics training officer. Continued into reserves until 1959 retiring as a Captain.

Keywords: Anybody remember Sergeant Flynn our first platoon leader. He was on
he
Canal" (Guadalcanal) along with some of the other NCOs in charge of
our Platoon. He came from the "Slopchute" one night and cut one of
our guys(a screw up) in the gut with a beer opener(slight wound).
Somehow the powers to be got wind of it and he was brought up on
charges and removed from the platoon, and I believe he went on to
Korea. He was one tough "gyrene" and some of us respected him and
would not give a bad report on him. He produced some honor platoons
at PI. He was a marine's marine. "Gung Ho and Semper Fi Mac"
