Comments: Was loader on foward 3.50 mount on left side of right barrel in 1953 when the Carpenter was firing on hungnam korea. The 3.50 mount on fan tail got to fire a few rounds, but we were faceing the other end and didnt get to .As the ship was fireing i saw a black streak to the starboard side and just as i nudged ( I think it was Tadlock who was loader on left barrel) and i said did you see, and then there was a splash in water. Dont remember just how many rounds they fired at us , but would be on one side and then on the other.

Sonar Gang, names difficult to recall.Chief
Chastain, 1st.class Trice, 3rd class Barger, I
was 2nd class at the time.
Recall looking up at Tripler A.H. steaming out of
port for weekly ops and wondering how nice it
would be to spend some time up there amid all the
white clad navy nurses. Found out all too soon,
wss burned badly (chemical) on Eniwetok and air
evac'd via Kwaj and Johnston Is. to Pearl.
Great days in the Pineapple Fleet.
