Comments: I am submitting this in memory of my father, Corporal James Emery Midyette Sr. I am Jr and a retired US Army Colonel. My daddy served at K-55 as an Army Engineer heavy equipment mechanic from the summer of 1953 until the summer of 1954. I don't know his exact dates there, but he had arrived prior to the armistice being signed on July 23, 1953. His primary job was to maintain the asphalt and concrete plants that were being used to build the airfield. He lived in Tent 3. I have several photos of him there with other soldiers.

Comments: Hello Gentlemen of the 839th EAB,
May I first offer my sincere gratitude for your years of service and sacrifice for our country. Thank you.

My father, Donald Gordon Faulkner served in the 839th EAB. I have numerous photos of his time there, both on the base and of the surrounding area/peoples. If you would be interested in them, please let me know and I will scan them and send them to you. My father succumbed to brain cancer in 1976 so I am unable to ask him the names of the men in the photos. You may contact me via email if you are interested in the pictures he took.

May God bless you today,
Linda Tokarzewski

Comments: Looking for anyone who might have known Raymond (Pete) L. McDonald. I have come into possession of a stack of photographs from Korea in 1953-1954 which I believe were taken by him. He belonged to Company B of the 839th Engineer Aviation Battalion and was stationed at Osan Air Force Base. He was a truck driver and was excited to be assigned a brand new truck with only 100 miles on it while in Korea. He slept in Tent 16 with five other guys. He took lots of photographs. Some of the surnames on the backs of these photographs are Spratt, Monte Bianchi, Manney, Stuger, Kolsta, Miconi, Coulter, Pett, Polk, Palmateen, Kelly, and Allen. He was from Sharon, Pennsylvania. I am just trying to confirm that this is the correct person so that I can return these photographs to his family in case they would like to have them.

Comments: FINAL CORRECTED STATEMENT
Statement for Nathaniel Montgomery Served at Osan
K55, Korea 1953-54. Was there when one of the fighter
jets crashed on takeoff and was so close to where he
was positioned until he thought they had been hit. It
was a scary time says Nathaniel and he was one of the
few Negroes in the Army Engineering Unit that was
attached to the Air Force at K55. I would like to
hear from anyone else who is still around and served
at K55 at the time he was there. The crash of the
plane occurred sometime early or late in the summer
of 1954. Please let me hear from any of you who are
still around. I would appreciate copies of newspaper
articles, pictures etc., if you have any.In his first
statement to me Mr. Montgomery said late Spring or
early Summer. This is a clarification of the original
statement I sent out for Mr. Montgomery saying it was
late in the summer. Thanks for considering this
correction of an error made in typing up Mr.
Montgomery's information.
Re-submitted by Dave Freeman who is trying to help
Mr. Montgomery establish the fact that he was present
close to where the wreckage ocurred in May 1954 at
K55 in Korea.

Apparently there was a fire in the 70's that destroyed many of the records from that time period. This is the limited information I got from him.
His name is Robert A. Penter discharged as 1st Lieutenant in 1953
5th Airforce-HQ
Ground Safety Officer
I think the base was K-5 (His notes say 12 miles south of Seoul)
1952-53
He was a coach for the base football team.
Apparently he coached a game against Ted Williams' base sometime during that period.
Also told stories of hunting fowl during off time.
Any information would help.

My father actually picked my husband, who served in the Air Force 23 years. Three of my four sons have served, two in both the Marines and the Army, one retired from the Army and one is an active-duty Colonel. My daughter was a Captain in the AFROTC but married her sophomore year. My fouth son is a chronic asthmatic and was denied by all five branches (that includes the Coast Guard).
My father was at Ft. Sam when he and my mother met. He served at Santa Monica, Ft. Bragg, Hot Springs, and Ft Benning state-side and fought in Africa, Italy, and Korea. I was nine-years-old when he left for Korea, so that's all I remember. I don't know what my mother did with my letters. She re-married when I was four-years-old.
