Comments: I am working on a novel featuring a character who was called into service in the early 1950s as a surgeon in the 328th Ordnance Battalion. He could also be assigned to a Medical Unit such as:

1st Mobile Army Surgical Hospital
2nd Medical Battalion
2nd Mobile Army Surgical Hospital
11th Medical Evacuation Hospital or other.

I want to be as historically accurate as possible, and am looking for help in fill in details to make my character authentic...that make the reader understand what his experience was like. I'm having trouble finding any materials that would provide this information, and so I am asking your help.

My character is a medical doctor -- a resident in training who postpones his studies to serve his nation.

He goes off in the early 1950s (when exactly?) and returns to the U.S. in 1953. It is also possible he have been assigned to an Army research facility to study tropical diesesses...if that makes sense. If so, does anyone know where that might have been located.

If you know any of these details, or know someone who might know, I would REALLY appreciate your help. If not actual details, I could just use some help in getting my dates and army info right! Thank you!
Joyce
