5th Communications Squadron (DIV), which provided communications
support for the 315th Air Division for all locations in Japan and Korea
in support of the Troop Carrier missions.

The headquarters was originally at Fuchu AS Japan and relocated to
Tachikawa Japan in 1954.

The 5th Communications Squadron was established in 1951 and continued in
operation in Japan and Korea through the middle 1960's. The 5th Comm Sqdn
also had a detachment on Okinawa through the middle 1960's. This squadron
was unique in that it was a squadron assigned directly under the control of
the 315th Air Division. They also provided base communications support at
Tachikawa in association with the 374th Communications Squadron. Most of the
5th Comm Detachments in Korea worked in the same locations as the 315th
Aerial Port squadrons.
