1169th Engineer Combat Group
Updated 2 Jul 1999
I served with the 1169th in Korea from Feb. 1951 to Dec 1951.
This was a National Guard Unit that was activated during the war
from Huntsville Alabama. I was the only "Yankee" in the Hqs. Co.
having been transferred there from the hospital in Ky. just before
we shipped out.
Anyway, I was wondering if any of the Hq. Co. men are on the "net" so
we could correspond and maybe have a reunion someday. Got any idea
how I could get in contact with them? Thanks.

Ted: The 1169th was attached to 8th Army and that was our shoulder
patch. I was in Hqs. Co. and we had searchlight companies and
construction companies that built the pontoon bridges. Tha C.O. of
Hq. Co. Was Major Baker (a great guy). We spent time in Ouijongbu
and in Yongdongpo during some of the major campaigns and we were
awarded four campaign stars for our Korean Service Medal..Spent
several months in North Korea before we got chased out..
Hope this info will be of help. I have been looking on the Net for
the 1169th as a National Guard Unit that is still active. No
luck. Thanks again for your help. Iguess somewhere there is a history
of the 1169th but where?
